After the breathtaking result of the All Ireland Final, this Saturday Clare and Cork are meeting again on the pitch. Who will win this time? Cork? Draw? Clare? Vote what you think below!
As we are going to see the author Darren Shan in Glór tomorrow, we are all very excited about this event, myself included. This post is information about him.
Darren O'Shaughnessy was born in London, England. Darren started school at the age of three in England, but he moved with his family to Limerick in Ireland at six.
At age twenty three, Darren became a proper author, but he first started writing in his early teens. He enjoyed his first taste of literary success was at age 15, as a runner-up in a television script-writing competition for RTE, with a dark comedy script entitled "A Day in the Morgue".
After writing a few adult books before the turn of the century, Darren wrote a children's book in January of 2000 as a standalone book. It was called Cirque de Freak. It turned out to be more popular beyond Darren's expectations. The series had twelve books, as well as a prequel series, along with a movie which causes whoever mentions it to be looked down upon.
This year is a very special for the schools sixth class because they will be making there confirmation. Confirmation is where you confirm your belief in God. This years Confirmation is on Saturday the 8th of March at 3.00pm. The progress to your Confirmation begins with your Enrollment Mass which is on Tuesday the 14th of November at 7.30pm.
Fever Crumb is the first book of the prequel quartet. It is set a few hundred years before the rest of the Mortal Engines series, though it is still over two thousand years in the future from today. It is set in London, England.
This book follows the life of Fever Crumb, an orphan and the only female Engineer, a secretive group of scientists who try to recreate the wonders from before the Sixty Minute War, the American Empire against Greater China. After this war many things were lost to time, though most things can be found, they cannot be recreated. The Engineers are trying to remake the technological wonders from over three hundred years ago.
Fever Crumb, a very rational girl of about 20, lives in Godshawk's Head. She has different coloured eyes and no hair. She was found in a basket with a sign saying 'HER NAME IS FEVER'. After being found by an Engineer with the surname of 'Crumb,' Fever was called that. A man by the name of Kit Solent requests her to do a favour.
The Scriven were mutants from the freezing north, many having spots on them along with other minor mutations. They invaded London and declared themselves 'Homo Superiors.' However, they all died out, one of the last to die being Godshawk himself, a scientist who came very close to remaking the wonders of the Ancients. Due to this invasion of London ending less than forty years ago, seeing any minor mutation will more than likely get you killed by Londoners. After getting beat over having a green and blue eyes, Kit Solent finds Dr. Crmub before she is killed and only is a small bit beaten by the crowd.
Kit Solent wanted Fever's help as he had found ruins and he wanted to know if she could open the gate into it, as he had only managed to get the first one open. From there the story escalates rapidly, a main plot idea being the Skinners, a nearly dead organisation who kill and skin mutants, though only the spotty Scriven they skin.
The book is well written and references the previous sequel books in every way possible while being realistic, even though there are hundreds of years between them. I would rate this book with an 9.5/10, the last 0.5 being dropped from the confusing ending, though it is well explained in the next book. ~ Cian Perill ~
Over the past week or so, we have been reading books to review on. I like my book alot! I have been reading "IceFire" By Chris D'lacey. We will be reviewing our books on Friday. All our books look very interesting! Good day, sir.
Today is the day of the real cross-country. Children from our school and other schools participated. Congratulations and commiserations to those who won and lost.
Last week students were participating in the running trials. Only three boys and girls in every class made it through. The running trials will determine who will qualify for the up coming events.
As most of you should know, we have a new principal for our school! Sadly, we had to say goodbye to Brother Da'Róiste. But we have a new Principal now. His name is Mr Glynn. We are looking forward to having him as our new principal!
As you probably know, this Sunday, at 3:30, Clare and Cork are going off against their other in a All-Munster All-Ireland Hurling Final. The odds are fairly even and both teams were unexpected to go this far. Clare has managed to beat Galway while Cork beat Clare recently. If Clare wins they will have the McCarthy Cup for the first time since 1997, 99 years since their first All-Ireland. And if Cork win, it will have been 7 years since 2006. Who do you think is going to win? Vote in the poll below!
