The first edition of The Scribbler, the school's newspaper, will be coming out during the last week of school before Christmas. It contains pages of work composed by the children, so be sure to get your copy before they are all sold out.
Over the past week and the upcoming months, we will be doing Oral Presentations for 1 minute and longer. I am doing my presentation on Friday about H. G. Wells. Other topics include: Swimming, WWI, WWII, Soccer Transfers, Space, The Big Band Theory, Irish Landmarks, Phones, Trees and Flowers. This article will focus on Herbert "Bertie" George Wells. My presentation. Born in Kent, England in the year of 1866, H. G. Wells only discovered his talent for writing at the age of twenty, though it was ten years later before he could afford to make any chance of making it into a career. His first published book was The Time Machine. It was the first book with the concept of time travel within it. It goes through the first three pages explaining time travel and exactly what it is, though nowadays you just have to mention it and the majority of people know it. It is first person and it shows the sights that the main character saw in the future. H. G. Wells, known as the Father of Miniaturised War Gaming and the Father of Science Fiction, along with Isaac Asimov, Jules Verne and Arthur C. Clarke, wrote novels which are now considered classics. Examples include The Invisible Man, War of the Worlds, First Men in the Moon and The Island of Doctor Moreau. I own all of these books as well as an extra copy of War of the Worlds. Well's great novels are By Cian Perill,
Editor of CBS Latest News The E-Learning Committee is an organisation set up to discuss the future of the Ennis CBS in terms of technology. There are eight members in total. Three are children in fourth and fifth classes. Four members are staff and three are from the Parents Association. The Committee discusses ideas such as the implementation of technology in everyday school. Ideas such as science with Rice College teachers and replaced books with a form of tablet are floating around. The brainstorming has recently finished and now the Committee and I have to decide what to do and when to do it. This Committee will last over two years, during which it will install technology into the school's everyday routine.
The Native Americans, also mistakenly called Indians, are as the name suggests, the people native to America. The Native American government was a tribal system. Each tribe would have its own crops, buildings, elders and council. The elders and council were highly respected among any tribe. After thousands of years in isolation, in 1496 the Nahullo, or Europeans arrived. In a few decades, the land once owned by great tribes was taken politically by the British, French, Spanish and the Dutch. The tribes were forced to leave their homes and their traditional lands behind and walk over a thousand miles in winter to get to a reservation. This event was known as 'The Trail of Tears' as so many Americans died. Soon after the American Revolution, George Washington begun signing documents to burn down and attack any remaining Native American tribes. Nowadays, the original Americans live in reservations.
