Throughout the week we were doing presentations, each lasting from 3-5 minutes. Mine, which I did on Monday, was about Norse Mythology. In it I covered Creation, Notable Gods and Goddesses and finally Ragnarok (Destiny of the Gods). A shortened version is below, containing Creation.
Creation
There are three places in the universe: Ginnungagap (Yawning Gap), Niflheim (Land of Ice and Snow) and Muspell (Land of Heat and Fire). Muspell's heat melted a few bits of ice in Niflheim and the water then was also evaporated by the fire. Because of this, a Giant called Ymir was formed. Ymir survived off of the milk provided by a very large cow called Aumdula.
One day, while Ymir was sleeping, his collective armpit sweat built two smaller giants underneath them. His leg sweat also built a six headed giant called Thrudgelmir, who later had a son called Bereglmir, the first Frost Giant that inhabited Niflheim. Aumdula the cow was licking a block of ice for three days non-stop for food and water. Eventually, a man called Buri was excavated. He was known as the first God.
Buri had a son called Bor. Together they slowly tried to wear down the numbers of the Frost Giants, but nothing really happened. Bor married a Frost Giant even though they were considered mortal enemies. He had sons called Odin, Vili and Vé. They absolutely loathed giants so much that they united and killed Ymir in his sleep.
All Frost Giants drowned in Ymir's blood, which later became the sea. The brothers and two frost giants survived. The brothers made Ymir's body into Earth, known as Midgard to the Vikings. They made his from his bones the hills, from his hair the trees, from his brains the clouds, from his skull the heavens, and from his eyebrows a wall around the middle realm in which mankind lives, Midgard.
Sometime later, the brothers found an ash and an elm tree lying on the ground. They made them into people, Ask was the man, while Embla was the woman. These were the first inhabitants of Midgard.
I hoped you enjoyed,
